WHERE THE PROJECT STARTED

The Rethink Homelessness project actually started in two of the junior English courses. A small group of four students planted the initial seed for the focus on homelessness when they showed interest in the issue during first trimester.

From there, Mrs. Mason built the project around the driving question What is our community's perception of homelessness and how can we help prep for the school wide service project third trimester?

She launched the project with her English 11B students, who would serve as the pilot group, in January 2015. The focus of the project progressed as students dug deeper and deeper into the issue.

WHAT'S YOUR PERCEPTION?

On the day the project was rolled out to the entire school, each pair of facilitators asked the learners, "What is your perception of the homeless?" Unsurprisingly most of the students viewed them as dirty, old, living out of cardboard boxes, lazy, etc. This helped to frame our goal for the project -- educate ourselves, widen our world view, and change our perception. Check out this video showing some of the students' perceptions.

WHAT IS EAGLE TECH ACADEMY?

ETA is designed to develop learners into people who are confident, knowledgeable, and responsible collaborators who are ready for whatever path they choose to pursue in life. Whether they go to college, start their own business, or enter the workforce directly after high school, they will do so with a strong set of skills to help them along the way.
